Revitalizing Calgary’s downtown with modern living spaces.

Overview

The HAT @ Claire is a residential development by CIDEX Group and part of the City of Calgary’s ongoing efforts to transform the downtown core into a vibrant, mixed-use community. Previously an office tower, the building was converted into modern rental suites to help bring more people into the city center, not just for work, but to live and thrive.

My Role

As Design Manager, I led a cross-functional team of designers across both product and marketing streams. I oversaw the design strategy, managed execution, and made sure everything stayed consistent with the overall brand. I also developed design systems to help streamline our process and contributed hands-on to many of the final assets.

I’m grateful to have played a part in the City of Calgary’s downtown transformation, shaping spaces where people can not only live, but also connect and thrive.

Challenge

The goal was to breathe new life into a commercial building while staying true to both the HAT apartment brand and the City of Calgary’s vision for a more engaging, people-first downtown. The design needed to feel elevated yet welcoming, and communicate the ease and elegance of downtown living near Eau Claire’s iconic riverfront.

Approach & Deliverables

We crafted a cohesive visual identity inspired by Eau Claire nieghbourhood by incorporating waves, movement and nature inspired colour palette. This identity came to life across a variety of physical and digital touchpoints:

  • Brand Identity: A wave-inspired look that evokes calm, connection, and the nearby river while staying true to the HAT brand family.

  • Lease-Up Materials: Brochures, amenity maps (highlighting the Plus 15 skywalk system), and floor plan sheets to support prospective tenants in their decision-making.

  • Website Design: A clean, conversion-focused website showcasing suite features, amenities, and floorplans, with a contact form to encourage inquiries.

  • Environmental Graphics: Wall murals and window decals designed to create a warm and welcoming street presence.

Impact

The final outcome was a unified brand experience that helped introduce a refreshed residential space into the heart of Calgary’s downtown. All the design elements from decals to the website was built to support leasing efforts while contributing to a larger movement: reimagining what downtown Calgary can be beyond the 9-to-5.
